Should You Buy a Naked Palette?

Hello lovelies!

So your thinking about buying a Naked Palette, the allure of the palettes I must say is quite high. Urban Decays best sellers are highly acclaimed on a multitude of social networks, including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. But are the palettes really worth the money and all the hype?

I must say I was one of the many people who saw the allure of the palettes when my favorite beauty guru’s (such as Ingrid, Missglamorazzi, Elle Allthatglitters21, Olivia missolivia, and the list goes on and on) purchased and began using the palettes in their tutorials.

But was it really the Palettes that were making these Guru’s looks fantastic? Or was it their sheer talent and beauty alone? Being the naturally curious person that I am I wanted to discover what really was so great about these palettes, after waiting a couple of months for the original Naked Palette to finally become available back in stores I finally got my answer.

The original palette has 12 neutral eye shadows all wrapped up in a brown velvet box with pretty gold lettering; initially I had the same thought as many other women. “Wow, its so gorgeous! I hardly want to touch it!” But once I got over the initial awestruck feeling of Urban Decay’s little gem, I just dove in. The twelve shades range in a number of finishes, 2 matte (Naked and Buck), 3 shades with glitter (Sidecar, Creep and Gunmetal) and 7 shimmer shades (Virgin, Sin, Half-baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, and Hustle.)

All twelve of the shades have excellent color payoff/pigmentation and wear all day on the eyes with a primer (a sample of Urban Decay’s Primer Potion is often included with the palette, along with either a double ended eyeliner or a double ended brush.)
You are also able to create a plethora of looks with just the original palette, easily creating a school/work look and having the ability to easily transform that look to a nighttime/going out look. If you are stuck on how to make different looks, there are an abundance of tutorials available for the palette on You Tube, Beautylish and many other blogging social networks.

Now the price of this palette does tend to scare people away, and I completely understand! Fifty dollars (the price point at Sephora) is a LOT of money! But when you divide that cost by the amount of product you are getting the price becomes much more reasonable, currently when you buy a naked palette at Sephora you receive the twelve eye shadows, a mini primer potion and a double ended make up brush (a flat shader brush on one side and a lovely blending brush on the other, both sides made of synthetic hair.) Lets say for the sake of this mathematic equation that you are receiving 14 products when you purchase the palette, fifty dollars divided by fourteen is about three dollars and 57 cents per product! I don’t think there are even many drugstore products you could by at that price, an eye shadow or brush from the E.L.F. cosmetics studio line will cost you three dollars alone (and I can personally guarantee that the Urban Decay shadows and brushes are of much higher quality then their low-end drugstore counterparts!)

In the end I would and have recommended this palette to many people, I even bought one for my mother for Christmas last year. Although she regrettably says that she rarely uses the two darkest blue tinted shades (Creep and Gunmetal) she is also enamored by the palette. If you are starting off with your make-up collection this palette would cover ALL of your needs for neutral shadows (assuming you like shimmery shades, I do prefer Matte finishes but these shades wear so well the finish does not really bother me.)

If you can get past the initial shock of spending fifty dollars on one palette of eye shadows, you will come to realize just how much that little brown and gold palette is really worth! It’s the perfect everyday palette for Make-up Guru’s and average women alike!

Hope this helps! Have a lovely day!
